Job Fair helps students find work on campus

For the third time in Washburn history, the career services hosted an on-campus job fair in the Washburn B room, which has been previously held in the Union Underground. Students were able to talk to multiple employers to get an idea of what jobs are offered here on campus.

“One of the great things about working on campus is that you are a student first,” said Lindsay Monroe, student employment coordinator. “So the departments will work with your schedule.”

The booths ranged from desk assistants for the residence buildings to office assistants with counseling services.

There are many benefits to working on campus, one of which being that most jobs on campus are entry-level, and open to all majors. This means that one does not need to be in a specific major to work in that field or need experience, as many jobs will provide training.

According to John Hopkins University, having an on campus job allows for students to do “all kinds of tasks that can apply to […] their future careers.”

Employers are looking for students who not only have the skills required but who can be “[…] more than support,” said Crystal Leming, director of Counseling Services, as students normally fill roles held by professionals.
