On Saturday, Nov. 23, Washburn University emerged victorious in their basketball matchup against William Jewell College, scoring a total of 81 points to secure the win.
The Ichabods put up 52 points in the second half turning a 3-point halftime lead into an 8-point win over William Jewell in Lee Arena.
Brooklyn Garst, freshman legal studies major, participated in the game as a cheerleader, showing support for Washburn.
“They have a really great attitude and overall positive energy around the Arena,” Garst said.
The Ichabods, who were held to 41% shooting in the first half, heated up to 71% in the second half hitting 17 of 24 shots overall going 6 for 9 from deep and 12 for 14 from the free-throw line.
Keiana McMillan, senior integrated studies major, also participated in the game as a cheerleader, providing support throughout the game.
“I feel like they played way better today than they played before as a team and I am grateful that I was able to cheer them on,” McMillan said.
The undefeated Ichabods led by no more than five with 12:07 to go until a 10-1 run midway through the half pushed Washburn up by 12 with 7:13 left.
Elly Sherbeck, one of the spectators, shared her thoughts on this game.
“My daughter is on the dance team so I came here but I am really glad Washburn won,” Sherbeck said.
Washburn claimed a decisive victory in the game, dominating their opponent William Jewell with a final score of 81 points. William Jewell only managed to score 73 points, falling short of challenging Washburn’s performance throughout the game.
