Team Double Jeopardy and Chelsea play in the Intramural Soccer event. Chelsea won the match by 3-1.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, players started stretching on the field for the intramural soccer match in the Indoor Athletic Facility. The event was hosted by the Recreation and Wellness Center. Around 8:15 p.m., all the team members were ready to sweat. There were two games happening simultaneously, with teams Grass Fairies and Lions on one side and teams Double Jeopardy and Chelsea on the other.

In the first half of the game, Double Jeopardy were in the lead by 1-0 while Grass Fairies led the other game by 1-0. Things were looking pretty heated for Chelsea and the Lions as they were pulling tremendous efforts trying to score.

Anthony Depner, a senior statistics major, was the event supervisor who kept score for both of the games.

“I started supervising this year,” Depner said. “Intramural games are a big sport event before Christmas break.”

In the second half of the game, Chelsea made a strong comeback by scoring three times and won the game. On the other side, Grass Fairies won 2-0 and celebrated.

Faith Jepchirchir, a sophomore nursing major, scored the third goal for Team Chelsea. Right after she scored the goal, she bursted with excitement yelling “Si!” recreating a famous scene from her favorite player, Christiano Ronaldo, when he scored in a match.

“I felt so good at that moment,” Jepchirchir said. “I think I really got what I wanted from that game.”

The intramural soccer was held in a friendly manner and the players had a great time playing. The game ended at 9 p.m. and everyone headed back home.
