The Lady Ichabods begin their first set against the Christian brothers in Wednesday’s game. They won 3 out of the 5 sets.

The Washburn Volleyball team had a tournament against the Christian Brothers that took place on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. They went into this game with an overall record of being 4-1.

The Ichabods prevailed in the end, winning the first 3 sets out of 5.

“I think we had a lot of good block touches and that is something we have been working hard at in practice, so I think that really showed in our game today. The defense really picked up,” said Taryn Pridgett, junior psychology major, position outside hitter.

She has played for the team her whole college career so far. While she goes on to explain all of the positive plays that happened in the game, there were also a few improvements that Pridgett wanted to mention for upcoming tournaments.

“We really needed to just keep up the intensity, limit any errors and just overall have fun,” Pridgett said.

In the first set, Washburn won with a score of 25-11. Set two, they stopped them 25-10 and they brought it home on set three with a final score of 25-9. Having a total of 6 blocks in the third set, it helped them reach their goal towards the very end.

“We served the ball well, we passed the ball well, and most of the time when you serve better than the other team, you are going to win,” said Chris Herron, head coach.

Herron has been the Washburn Volleyball coach for 22 years and has high goals for each game to come.

“Each team in these tournaments is going to be a little tougher, and a little tougher, and a little tougher, so we’ll just have to make sure our focus remains on point,” Herron said.

The lady Ichabods have only one objective when thinking about the future and that is keeping zoned in on every game that is to come.

“Staying focused and working towards the next thing is what we need to do. Focus on what is in front of us at this moment,” said Rachel Schwensen, a graduate student studying business administration and right side player.

Having the mindset of staying focused on the objective pushed these Ichabods to have a successful game ending.

Washburn will soon face the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Lee Arena, Sept. 15 at 6pm.
