On Oct. 10, Washburn University competed against Fort Hays State and secured a 3-0 win.
It was a tough, back and forth match as Washburn notched 45 kills and 43 assists maintaining a high energy and focus from beginning to end. With teamwork and determination on a full display, Washburn powered their way to a well deserved victory over Fort Hays State.
“Our setters did a great job leading the team and setting up our hitters…. We think like goldfish, goldfish have a 10 seconds memory. So if you have made this up, you just have to forget about it, because that point doesn’t matter anymore and the next point is the only point that matters. ,” said senior outside hitter, Bella Limback.
Limback had a total of 10 kills and 5 blocks.
The team focus remained strong on every play, quickly moving past mistakes while maintaining high energy which kept the team motivated and in command throughout the game.
“I came here for four years and I found my bridesmaids, roommates and best friends for life. And I think just playing with the girls and showing up with them every day is definitely my favorite part,” said senior setter, Corinna McMullen
The friendships made on the court reach beyond the sport itself, turning teammates into lifelong companions and making each practice a memorable experience.
“I think we had a few strong serving runs that really changed it. It got pretty close, the third set but I think we are like ‘no, we are not letting this happen.’ So a few people made some really good plays, got some good kills,” said senior outside hitter, Keilah River.
The team really stepped up when the play mattered the most, making key plays that turned the match in their favor which led them to a well-deserved hard-fought victory.
Every moment of the match showed Washburn’s skill and teamwork, ending in an exciting win that really highlighted their heart and determination. Now, all eyes are on their next game, on Oct.16.
