The Washburn Ichabod’s women’s volleyball team continued its strong 2025-2026 campaign with a 3-0 sweep over Central Missouri on Thursday night at White Fieldhouse in Topeka. The win lifted Washburn to 17-1 overall and 6-1 in the MIAA. Washburn seized control early, blending into sharp offensive execution with disciplined defense to hold off every Central Missouri surge. Ichabod hit .300 as a team and got 47 kills, compared to Jennie’s .201 hitting percentage and 41 kills.
The team’s strong bond made the win feel easier, as their momentum carried through the match in a smooth rhythm.
“It’s like a game of chess,” said head coach Chris Herron. “They make a move, we must respond to it, and then they counter our move. It’s all about anticipating and adjusting.”
Senior middle hitter Austin Broadie had a team high 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .385.
“I think we probably did a really good job walking and serving as well,” Broadie said.
Sophomore outside hitter Keilah Rivers had 6 kills and 2 blocks.
Senior middle hitter Alex Dvorak had 9 kills with 2 blocks, and Bella Limback, senior outside hitter, also had 7 kills and 2 blocks.
“We knew it was about to be a dogfight when we came in, even if we lost a few points, we gathered together, stayed determined, and decided we were going to win the game,” Rivers said.
In the end, it was the team’s determination that made all the difference, securing a memorable victory for us.
The Ichabod’s teamwork, focus, and resilience continue to shine as they look ahead to their next challenge- a home match against Emporia State University on Oct. 24.
