Topeka Public Schools had officially announced that all in-person learning would resume, Feb. 15, but then Kansas weather made another decision.

In light of the weather and the short nature of the week because of previously scheduled parent-teacher conferences, 501 will now resume Monday, Feb. 22.

Shawnee County has recently climbed out of the uncontrolled COVID-19 cases, which led to the decision to resume. Topeka Public Schools put out a statement regarding the decision to resume in-person learning.

“The county has an orange rating for the second consecutive week. Therefore we will reopen Monday, February 15th, 2021, for in-person learning… If a parent would prefer to keep their child at home learning remotely, that remains an option and the school can be contacted to keep them informed.” – Topeka Public Schools

The orange zone designates that COVID-19 cases are high but not uncontrollable and Topeka Public Schools has been advised they are good to go.
