On Friday, April 18, Zeta Tau Alpha hosted “Pie a Zeta” from 12-3 p.m. on the East Union Lawn to wrap up its Philanthropy Week. For just $3 a pie, attendees had the chance to pie members of the sorority with whipped cream.
Isabella Burghart, president of Zeta Tau Alpha, expressed that they had done this event in the past and had a lot of success and would like to continue it in the future.
“All of our proceeds will go towards our philanthropy, which is the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation,” Burghart said. “It funds scholarships [and] educational opportunities as well as the fight against breast cancer.”
Anna Hays, freshman criminal justice major, explained the idea to organize the event this year.
“We’ve been doing it for a lot of years,” Hays said. “It is one of our events that raises the most money for our philanthropy, which is breast cancer awareness and education. And it’s really fun because we have a lot of people come out and show up.”
Arianah Reynoso, sophomore nursing major, explains how this event helps to bring the campus community together.
“It brings up students who don’t know much about greek life and students who are involved in greek life,” Reynoso said. “It brings us all together. I didn’t expect such a big turnout in today’s event, but I was glad that there were a lot of people getting pied today.”
This was the last event for philanthropy week. The club partners with the American Cancer Society each year to raise money for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
