Morgan Hall has been under construction to improve conditions on campus for students and staff at Washburn University. The project is going as planned and will bring important improvements.
One big change is in the Student One Stop desk, where students go for help with financial aid, academic concerns and other important matters. Before, the space was too open and students felt uncomfortable discussing private issues because others could overhear.
“We know students need privacy when talking about their financial or academic situations,” said,Eric Grospitch, vice president for Student Life. “This new design will give students a quiet and private space to have these conversations. We are also making sure staff can work together more easily.”
Another big update is taking place on the second floor of Morgan Hall. The university is moving the offices of the president and the vice president of administration into the building. This will help university leaders work more closely and make decisions faster.
“With these changes, [JuliAnn Mazachek’s] leadership team will all be in the same building,” Grospitch said.
Students are looking forward to these changes as they will make it easier to get help and create a better experience at Washburn. The construction is almost done, and soon students and staff will be able to enjoy the new improvements. While the improvements will be helpful in the long run, some students have experienced disruptions due to the ongoing construction.
“Originally, it was scheduled to be completed over winter break, but I’m assuming the storms had a large impact on that timeline,” said Alex Timm, junior history major. “It has been really disruptive, at least for me personally, because I usually work in the admissions office, which isn’t quite operable right now. The remodel is taking longer than expected, and I’m looking forward to it being completed so things can get back to normal.”
Despite the delays, students and staff are eager to see the final results. The new changes at Morgan Hall will create a better experience for students, making it easier to get help and ensuring that university leadership can work more efficiently.
