Washburn women’s tennis played its first match at the Washburn Tennis Complex since the fall, facing off with Southwest Baptist University March 25.

The Ichabods fell in the return to home, losing a 2-5 match against the Bearcats, bringing the losing streak to seven.

Washburn got a clean sweep in doubles play to start the match off. Junior Svea Crohn and sophomore Marta Torres won a 6-2 match from the third position. Freshmen Isabella Martensson and Lara Schmid took a 7-5 victory from the one spot to earn the doubles point.

Junior Kinsey Fields and sophomore Maja Jung played out their match, taking a 7-5 victory to complete the sweep.

In singles play, Torres fell first, losing a two-set match from the first position. Martensson also lost in two sets on court two. Behind her, Jung lost a three set decision from the third position.

Playing from the fifth position, Crohn lost in two sets, officially giving Southwest Baptist the win. Schmid played out her match on court four, losing in three sets, with the final two going to tiebreakers.

Playing in the sixth position, sophomore Cadence Lynn picked up a two-set victory to make the final score 5-2.

The Ichabods fell to 4-8 with the loss as they get set to begin conference play against the University of Nebraska at Kearney March 26.
