Success week approaches quickly as students get ready for finals. Success week is from Dec. 6 to Dec. 9.

As the semester wraps up, Washburn Student Government Association will be hosting a series of events and activities on campus in the upcoming week. Daniel Lopez, WSGA’s Chair of Campus Affairs, explained that the success week was created to help students decompress before finals week. Events start on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021.

Monday, Dec. 6, 6-9 p.m. is the pizza night at Mabee Library, where students can get a slice and enjoy each other’s company while studying. Also, swag will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Tuesday, Dec. 7, 11-1 p.m. is drawing and coloring, at Memorial Union, where students can let their artsy side flourish, draw and color all they want. “Every art is a masterpiece!” says Lopez. Swag will be offered as well.

Wednesday, Dec. 8, 10-12 p.m. is hot chocolate and coffee open house, where students can come to the WSGA office at the Union Underground to learn more about the association and how to get involved while enjoying a hot beverage.

Thursday, Dec. 9, 11-1 p.m. come destress with cats and dogs at the Union Underground. Students are invited to come pet and interact with adorable dogs, and kittens brought in by a partnership with Helping Hands Humane Society, as well as meet other students and make new friends.

No events will be held on Friday.

Lopez reiterated that these events are a way to bring students together while helping them get less overwhelmed about their final exams. Swag and prizes distribution will be limited.

Communications major, Britt Opsteegh gave her opinion on the success week, “I think it’s a good thing because it gives students a moment of free time which they need, between studying for exams and finals, especially the day with cats and dogs.”

When asked about what other events she would like to see in future success weeks,Ospsteegh said, “A movie night. An evening where a movie is provided and you don’t have to worry about anything.”
