Ichabods picked 4th in preseason coaches poll; 6th in media poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Washburn Ichabod football team was tabbed fourth in the MIAA Coaches Poll and sixth in the MIAA Preseason Poll which were announced on Aug. 3 at the annual football luncheon at the Kansas City Marriott Hotel.

Washburn received 55 points in the coaches poll trailing Northwest Missouri with 80, Pittsburg State with 71 and Central Missouri with 59. The Bearcats received eight first place votes while the Gorillas received two first place votes.

In the media poll, the Ichabods were sixth receiving 289 points. Northwest Missouri had 42 first place votes of the 47 media members and league SID’s who voted in the poll. The Ichabods trailed Northwest Missouri (464 points), Pittsburg State (407 – four first-place votes), Central Missouri (321 – one first-place vote), Nebraska-Omaha (315) and Missouri Western (307).

The Ichabods will report on Aug. 5 have their first outside workout the following day. Washburn will open the season on Aug. 29 in Golden, Colo., against the Colorado School of Mines.
