FUMBLE: WASHBURN BALL – Fort Hays starts drive at own 35, Garrison hits Beau Gadwood for eight yard gain on first down, Walker rushes for gain of two and six, Garrison rushes for four yards and Marty Pfannenstiel called for personal foul (15 yards and first down on late hite). James Walker rushes for two on first down, Garrison throws for seven yards to Walker, converts first down. Walker rush for two on first down, Garrison hits Gadwood for 11 yards, but Gadwood fumbles and the ball is recovered by Marty Pfannenstiel at WU 8.

TOUCHDOWN: Washburn 28, Fort Hays State 14 – FHSU drtive begins on own 3, Walker rushes for two on first down, Garrison hits Walker for gains of two and five, FHSU punts. Washburn drive begins at own 47, Simoneau hits Bias for two yards, then hits Drameagon Powers for a 51 yard touchdown. Steve Ivanisevic PAT failed.

INTERCEPTION: FHSU BALL – Simoneau throws two incompletions, hits Lloyd Bias on fourth down. Moore rushes for two, gain of 0. Simoneau intercepted by C.J. Lovett.

END OF THIRD QUARTER

Washburn begins drive at own 26. Vershon Moore rushes for seven on first down, but a WU holding penalty by Brian Folkerts moves them back 10 yards. Simoneau hits Moore for five yard pass on first down, then hits fullback Greg Schoenberg for 44 yards, first down at FHSU 35. Moore rush for three yards on first down.

TURNOVER ON DOWNS: FHSU starts drive at own 23, Walker rushes for three on first down and 17 on second down. Garrison passes to O.J. Murdock and Cordarol Scales incomplete. Washburn defensive line doing a good job of pressuring Garrison. On third down, Garrison hits Scales for 12 yard first down conversion. On first dow n, Garrison sacked by Ben Bianchino, Dakota Palan-Johnson with the assist. Garrison hits Walker for gains of 12 and 8 to turn a second and 17 into a first down. Jacobb Irvin rushes for three yards on first down. Garrison throws two incompleteions, fourth and seven. Garrison pass on fourth down to Scales only goes for three yards, turnover on downs.

Garrison pass to Kenny Kinard complete, but FHSU called for illegal formation (too many men in the backfield), five yard loss, no play. Garrison throws two incompletions, FHSU punts on fourth and 15. Washburn starts drive at own 32, Vershon Moore rushes for two yard gain on first down. Simoneau pass to Brad Cole batted down on second down. On third and nine, Simoneau hits Cole for 32 yards and first down. At FHSU 34, Moore rushes for seven yards on first down and two yards of second down, two yards again on third down for the first down conversion. Ball on FHSU 23. Moore rushes for one yard on first down, Simoneau’s throws on second and third down go incomplete. Steve Ivanisevic misses a 39-yard field goal, wide right.

TOUCHDOWN: Washburn 22, Fort Hays State 14 – Washburn starts drive at own 32, Simoneau’s first down pass to Drameagon Powers gains 26 yards and a first down. Simoneau’s next two passes go incomplete, but he hits tight end Cameron Knox for 28 yards to move the ball to the FHSU 14 for a first down. Vershon Moore rushes for 9 yards on first down, then Simoneau hits Powers for five yards and a touchdown. 

SAFETY: Washburn 15, Fort Hays State 14 – James Walker gets a one yard rush on first down from FHSU’s own 2, one yard rush on second down, Washburn’s Eric Lawrence sacks Mike Garrison on third down for a safety.

INTERCEPTION: FHSU BALL – Washburn drive starts at own 38, Simoneau first down pass incomplete, Vershon Moore rush on second down good for five yards. On third, Simoneau’s pass to Ryan Mertz goes incomplete because of a pass interference call by FHSU’s Seth Blackwell. First down WU. Drameagon Powers rushes for three yards on a first down sweep. On second, Moore rushes for 14 yards to the FHSU 33. On first, Travis Mosby rushes for one yard on a reverse play. On second, Simoneau’s threw an interception to Michael Walker at the FHSU 2.

Simoneau avoids sack and fumble, ruled an incompletion. WU delay of game penalty moves the Ichabods back to the FHSU 35, but Simoneau hits Ryan Mertz to move the ball within the five. Washburn drive starts at own 20 on FHSU touchdown. Moore rush on first down goes for four yards. Simoneau’s second down pass incomplete. WU false start penalty called on Brian Folkerts on third down. Simoneau hits Drameagon Powers on third and 11 for 14 yards. Simoneau pass incomplete on first, bounces off Brad Cole’s helmet. Simoneau hits tight end Ryan Mertz for 24 yards on second down. TIMEOUT: WASHBURN – Tigers start the drive on their own 22 yard line. Jacobb Irvin rushes for three yards on first down, Mike Garrison hits O.J. Murdock for six yards. Third and one, Irvin converts first down on a two-yard rush. Garrison hits Kenny Kinard for six yards, Irvin loses three on second down, Garrison hits Cordarol Scales for 12 yards, first down. Vershon Moore breaks off an 11 yard rush on first down, Drameagon Powers rushes for six yards but a WU holding penalty moves them back. Dane Simoneau sacked for a loss of 11 yards on first and 14. Simoneau hits Brad Cole for a 41 yard pass that moves Washburn to the FHSU 16. Vershon Moore rushes for seven yards on first down, moves the ball inside the FHSU 10. Moore gets four yards on second down, first and goal on the FHSU 5. Moore gets two yards on first down, one yard on second down. Moore rushes for one yard on third down, ball on FHSU 1. Fort Hays calls a timeout with 5:21 remaining in the first half.

TOUCHDOWN: Fort Hays State 14, Washburn 3 – A Mike Garrison rush on second down converts the first down. So far Garrison, the quarterback, has been just as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm. After a Walker rush of three, Garrison throws an incompletion, but then rushes for 16 yards. Walker rushes for two on first down, then Garrison hits Robert Mercer for 17 yards. First down on the WU 28. Walker rush for three on first, then Garrison hits Kenny Kinard for an 11 yard first down. Walker two yard rush on first, then an incomplete pass by Garrison. Garrison throws an incomplete pass to the end zone, but WU’s Casey Curran called for holding. First down FHSU. Walker rushes for two yards on first, moves the ball to the WU 4. Walker rushes for three yards on second down, dives for end zone but Freddie Lavan knocks him out of bounds. Walker rushes for a one yard touchdown.

FIELD GOAL: Fort Hays State 7, Washburn 3 – Simoneau’s pass on third and seven is incomplete, Steve Ivanisevic hits a 44-yard field goal.

TIMEOUT: FORT HAYS STATE – Washburn drive starts at own 40. Vershon Moore gets a five yard rush on first down out of the Wildcat formation, then backup quarterback Jake Iverson comes in on second down as a tightend and picks up a 25 yard reception on a pass from Dane Simoneau. Moore gets a one yard rush on first down, two yard rush on second down and the Tigers call a timeout with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.

TOUCHDOWN: Fort Hays State 7, Washburn 0 – Jacobb Irvin rushes for a one yard gain on first down, followed by a Mike Garrison pass to Robert Mercer for seven yards. On third down, Irvin rushes for five yards and a first down conversion. Quarterback Mike Garrison rushes for seven yards on first down and one yard on second down. James Walker converts the third down with a two yard rush and starts the next first and ten with a seven yard scamper. Garrison then airs it out to Cordarol Scales for 19 yards and rushes for a one yard gain. On second down, Garrison bombs ito ut to O.J. Murdock for 30 yards and a touchdown. It’s Murdock’s fourth straight game with a touchdown reception over 20 yards.

First quarter, 15:00 – Fort Hays State starts their drive on their own 47 yard line. After converting a first down on the ground with running back James Walker, the Tigers go four and out on Mike Garrison’s passes and a delay of game penalty moves them back to the Washburn 46. Tigers punt, Washburn starts drive at own 17. Dane Simoneau starts the day for Washburn offensively with a five yard dumpoff pass to running back Vershon Moore. Moore then rushes for a 10-yard gain and a first down, followed by rush for no gain. Simoneau’s second pass goes incomplete, but he connects with Vershon Moore again on third down for an 18-yard gain and a first down. Terrence Lowe rushes twice for five yards total, and a personal foul on Ian Vistine on third and five negates a Simoneau first down toss to Brad Cole. Washburn goes four and out, punts.
