Washburn Review

Washburn Tech’s Fall 2010 Community Blood Drive will be held this Friday, Aug. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students in the Washburn Tech Healthcare Technology Program have been conducting the drive since 2000. Individuals 16 years and older with a minimum weight of 115 pounds are eligible to donate. Those 16 or 17 must bring a completed parental permission form which is available at the Washburn Tech administrative office.

“We have less than a one day supply of both type O, B positive and A negative,” Leann DeLong, donor recruiter with the Community Blood Center. “A good supply is 3 days. All blood types are welcome. With Labor Day weekend fast approaching we need all the units we can collect.”

The Washburn Tech Healthcare Technology Program offers a 13 credit technical certificate that is designed to prepare graduates for entry level positions as Nurse Aides and Home Health Aides. The program provides the foundation for more advanced health care careers such as Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology. The HealthCare Technology program introduces the student to basic patient care skills, medical terminology, basic medical math and systems of the human body.  Hands on experience is an integral part of the program.
