Beatles memorabilia exhibit at Mulvane Art Museum

Washburn Review

“Remember My Name,” an exhibit of Beatles memorabilia, will be on display at the Mulvane Art Museum Feb. 5 to March 20, 2011.

The exhibit features posters, photographs, albums, singles, covers, vinyls, magazines, prints, toys and other memorabilia collected and curated by Ron Russell and Tony Wedeking, both of Topeka.

The display, which chronicles the history of the Beatles and their impact upon art and music, tells the story of a high school band that woke up one day in the rarified air of international superstardom.  The story of the Beatles is a story of friendships made and lost, musical barriers broken and lives permanently altered.

The Beatles, the iconic rock group from Liverpool, England, are frequently cited as the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed band in modern history, with innovative music, a cultural impact that helped define the 1960s and an enormous influence on music still evident today.

The Mulvane Art Museum, ArtLab and gift shop are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Admission free. The museum will be closed Nov. 23-29 and Dec. 21-Jan. 3. The Museum is located on the campus of Washburn University, at 17th and Jewell Streets.  Free parking is available directly to the west of the Museum.
