ITS to implement phishing email warning label
May 19, 2020
Washburn ITS is setting up a system to crack down on potential spammers and phishers.
Email is the main avenue spammers and phishers use to collect personal data, according to the ITS department.
Starting Saturday, May 23, Washburn ITS will begin to label certain emails with the following CAUTION message – giving email users a heads up that something is not right.
An email sent Monday, May 18, from Chief Information Officer James Tagliareni informed the Washburn community of the new tool.
“Many attacks over email are from accounts external to the university, and this will provide yet another tool on everyone’s belt to discern legitimate emails from those not-so-legitimate,” the email stated.
If you have questions regarding the change, ITS asks you to contact them at (785) 670-3000 or [email protected]
