The Ichabod baseball team traveled to Emporia State University on Tuesday, March 7 to take on the Hornets.

The Ichabods came into the game with a 21-12 record, but unfortunately bumped their losses up one at the end of the day. The game was live tweeted from the ESU Athletics Twitter account with the hashtag “#TurnpikeTussle”.

The teams both started the game out confident and ready to play. By the end of the first inning, the Hornets took the lead 1-0. Just a half inning later, senior Connor Crimmins ran an RBI single, scoring on a double run tying the Ichabod’s up 1-1. The game stayed neck-in-neck until senior Tanner Johnson touched home as junior Kyle Carnahan put Washburn ahead of the game giving them a 3-1 lead with a 2 run homerun in the top of the third.

Carnahan would lead the team with three hits, 3 for 4, bringing in two. He continued to score once in the fifth and again in the seventh on a wild pitch.

Crimmins, Johnson, and Carnahan would be the only ones to score in the game. Emporia’s Evan Koehler would tie the game at 3 following the third. The Hornets continued to score one more in the third, five in the fourth, and five in the sixth, ending the game with a 15-5 win over the Ichabod’s.

The Ichabods headed home with the loss and a 21-13 record and will be back in action this weekend with a four-game MIAA series at Falley Field against Central Missouri (20-15). The series kicks off on Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. and will close out on Sunday at 1 p.m.
