New Midwest Entertainment LLC will be presenting Megacake Meltdown, an event that allows gamers to get together, play their favorite fighting games and participate in tournaments.

Gamers of all ages will be able to experience competition against other players, casually or in ranking. Game systems will be set up for participants to use, and some will be set up for casual players.

This year’s MegaCake Meltdown will be held at Going Bonkers, a family fun center. Families are also welcome to bring their children to use the playset while in the venue.

“The great thing is, that we are encouraging people of all ages to attend. Whether you are a gamer that never has lost or a gamer that loses all the time, you are welcome to come and join us in the family friendly environment,” said Josh Hoover, a worker at Gamers HQ.

The event will be from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. both Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, at Going Bonkers in Topeka, Kansas. The entry fee is $15 and and additional $10 for each tournament.

Friday’s tournaments will include “Super Smash Brothers: Melee”, “Super Smash Brothers” on Wii U and “Project M”. Saturday’s tournaments will include “Mortal Kombat X”, “Ultra Street Fighter IV” and “Skullgirls”.

Other games may be turned into tournaments if enough interest is shown, including “BlazBlue Chronophantasma”, “Dive Kick”, “SF Alpha 3”, “Powerstone” and “Under Night in Birth”.

Food will be available to purchase at the venue, and will give participants the chance to get 10% off of food items. Cosplay (dressing as a favorite character) is welcomed and encouraged.

“The first two Megacake Meltdowns were held at Gamers HQ and the first had maybe 40 people and the second maybe 80,” Hoover said. “This year, I think we are expecting maybe 250 to 300 in the larger venue, but we really can’t be sure.”
