Let’s be honest, most people hate change. We like our routine. Same bed, phone, plan for life. Then change shows up like an uninvited guest and says, “Surprise!” Annoying? Yes. Necessary? Also yes. Because whether we like it or not change is allowed.
Change is an ongoing process. For instance, our feelings. Do we not have different feelings at different times depending on the amount of sleep we have? Does our plan for the day not change due to some tiny thing that went wrong?
Our choice of food changes just because “something went wrong?” All this does not suggest that we are unstable. All this only suggests that we are alive. If everything is too static, then life is like watching an episode repeat itself.
However, in our own lives, change encourages growth. When we were young, we believed we had it all figured out. Then, life laughs and gives us a lesson. Our aims, interests, sometimes even our opinions shift to the opposite directions. That is not failure, it is learning. Changing your thoughts means that your brain is functional, not abnormal.
Students are experts in change. Many students enter college with a perfect plan. The exams arrive, stress joins the group chat and plans start changing fast. Some students change their major, study habits or future dreams. And that is totally okay. Life is not a straight line, it is more like a messy doodle with turns everywhere.
Change is another vital element, especially in schools and the workplace. What if we never changed anything? We would still write our homework, letters and wait eternally for the results. We make progress as a result of being courageous enough to try new things.
If you spend your entire life in your comfort zone, you will never evolve or become anyone other than yourself. Change requires you to try something, fail at it, then try again or try something else. It may be tough at first but practically everything that will be worth it requires discomfort. Nobody is successful the first time they try something.
Change means allowing. Allowing means not doing random things each and every day. It means allowing better options. It means admitting mistakes and being smart about it next time. Change means allowing a second opportunity to improve instead of once again facing the same problems.
In reality, change serves as what allows us to develop, progress and become more than we are. Indeed, life is a constant change. This is what keeps life interesting.
