On Oct.24, Washburn University Volleyball won over Emporia State University. Washburn secured a win of 3-0 with 25-17 in the first set, 25-15 in the second set and 25-23 in the third set.
Sophomore outside hitter Keilah Rivers had ten kills and one ace throughout the game while hitting .421 and adding six digs.
Senior setter Corinna McMullen had four aces and scored the first three points of the match.
“You have to continue to grow every day,” McMullen said. “And I think every single week, it is showing that we get better and better, and that is the toughest part right now.”
In one of the most contested moments in the most contested third set, Junior defensive specialist Taylor Rottinghaus again led the team against Emporia with two aces in a row by one point for a bit. Rottinghaus scored eight digs and three assists for the game.
“I handle pressure as every point matters anyways, so I just reminded myself of that,” Rottinghaus said.
The game finished with 3-0 sets. Head coach Chris Herron shared that their biggest strengths were that the team has really good hitters and setters. According to Herron, to be a more experienced team helps the Ichabods Tremendously.
After hitting over .400 in each of the final two sets, the Ichabods finished the match hitting .326 as a team with 44 kills.
Washburn has an upcoming match on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. against the University of Central Oklahoma.
