The Student Senate convened again last week for a much shorter meeting than before and passed a few resolutions. Notably, the room was fairly empty, with most senators being elsewhere, but the body had a quorum and work to be done, so it continued on at 6:30pm as usual.Â
Reports from members of the administration mostly provided updates to the Senate on events that had passed, such as the Bods Banquet and the Perfect Party.
Funding requests from student organizations were then considered, with the Senate approving several. First was the Washburn Association of Percussionists, followed by the Association of Composers and the Washburn Piano and Organ Society. These three were combined into one bill as they were for the same event and then passed. The Kinesiology Club, Washburn Strings and PickleBods were also discussed and approved.Â
A public forum was then held to discuss homecoming updates, with Lillian Clark, special events director and others taking to the podium. The Homecoming Schedule was presented, and is as follows:
Bod Bash – Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6-8pm on the North Union Lawn
Scorch on the Porch – Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 11-1pm in the Memorial Union
Yell Like Hell – Thursday, Oct. 23 from 7-9pm in White Concert Hall
Pancake Feed – Friday, Oct. 25 from 8-10am in BTAC
Parade – Friday, Oct. 25 at 10am
Festivities on the Lawn – Friday, Oct. 25 from 11-1pm
HOCO Football Game – Friday, Oct. 25 at 1pm
Senator Yaressi Cervantes-Rodriguez then presented a resolution she wrote which asked the Senate to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month. Senator Cervantes-Rodriguez presented on Hispanic Heritage Month, discussing everything from her heritage to ICE raids happening in eastern Kansas.Â
A resolution recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month was proposed and passed as well, along with a Freedom of Gender Expression resolution. The latter had the Senate recognize the multitudes of genders that exist in order to combat discrimination.Â
The Senate adjourned shortly after that, ending the meeting.Â
