Some students at Washburn University believe they are well-supported through helpful professors, research opportunities and student clubs, all of which they say help prepare them for future careers.
Rebecca McCreight, junior biochemistry and chemistry major, shared that Washburn’s professors are committed to their students’ success.
“I definitely have to say, the professors have helped out a lot. They definitely care a lot about their students and their success,” McCreight said.
She also highlighted the research opportunities available at Washburn.
“So each of the faculty members has their own little research projects that you can help out with and [you get] to be a part of the research, and it just allows you to gain that experience,” McCreight said.
McCreight is also part of the Chemistry Club, which is open to all students, and she finds it a great way to get involved with the chemistry department.
Molly Freisberg, junior secondary math education major, also praised Washburn’s professors.
“The professors here are very helpful, and they’re very good at helping us get through the classes,” Freisberg said.
She acknowledged that math is challenging but added that the professors are great at explaining difficult concepts, hold flexible office hours and provide help over email. Freisberg also finds the night lab helpful, especially for higher-level classes.
Lindsay Morales, freshman radiology major, chose Washburn because it’s close to her hometown and offers a supportive environment.
“I feel like Washburn because it was really close to my hometown, which is 45 minutes away. But I feel like it’s a community-wide school, and it’s really helpful for others,” Morales said.
She believes the university has the right technology for radiology students.
“I feel like here at Washburn, radiology is like one of the top majors that everyone’s doing right now,” Morales said.
Although she hasn’t been admitted to the radiology program yet, she knows the classes will be tough but that they will help her grow.
“I feel like the classes here, they might be kind of difficult if I do get in, but yeah, I think those classes being difficult amid Washburn allows you to be more effective,” Morales said.
With caring professors, research opportunities and student clubs, Washburn University provides students with the tools they need to succeed. Whether studying chemistry, math or radiology, students feel well prepared for their futures.
