Iron Warriors Gym, a new force in Topeka’s martial arts community, has already made waves within its first year of operation. This past weekend, the gym sponsored nine fighters in the Midwest International Kickboxing Federation tournament at Guadalupe Centers High School in Kansas City. Five of those fighters earned trophies, including Julien Mehrens, senior communication major, who secured a victory in the heavyweight division.
“We’re incredibly proud of our team,” said Erin Wilson, co-owner of Iron Warriors Gym. “We’ve shown we can compete at a high level. Our fighters train hard, and the results prove we’re creating something special.”
Co-owner Daniel Harris brings a wealth of international experience to the gym, having fought in Thailand and Australia.
“Martial arts has been a big part of my life,” Harris said. “I’ve had the privilege of training and fighting with some of the best, and now I get to pass that on to our students here in Topeka.”
While Harris leads the technical and fighting side of the gym, Wilson handles the business, ensuring smooth operations and strong connections with other gyms and fighters.
“It’s my job to make sure the lights stay on, but also to network and keep our fighters connected to opportunities,” Wilson said. “We’re sending two fighters to make their amateur debuts this November, and we’re building a community of strong, disciplined athletes.”
Mehrens, who took home a heavyweight trophy, spoke about the impact of the Iron Warriors on his training.
“The support and guidance here are unmatched. Danny’s coaching has really pushed me to improve,” Mehrens said.
Iron Warriors Gym isn’t just for experienced fighters; it offers five different types of classes, open to anyone interested in martial arts, fitness or self-defense.
“We believe in making martial arts accessible to everyone,” Harris said. “Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned fighter, we have something for you.”
