International House hosts “Reflections on Teaching in Amsterdam” event Feb. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. This event was free and open to the public.

The International House frequently brings a cultural perspective to the Washburn and Topeka communities so people can be better informed of what’s happening in other countries. Washburn students had a general view of different educational options if they wanted to study abroad.

Zeijlmans van Emmichoven will work in the department of physics and astronomy until the beginning of May. He struggled in the early part of the fall semester as he had trouble with his passport, online instruction and the diversity of students.

The presentation given by Zeijlmans van Emmichoven discussed how he mentored and supervised his students’ graduation projects. Zeijlmans van Emmichoven left with an impression of friendly colleagues and a well-equipped campus.

Audience members are Washburn students and faculty who are interested in Dutch culture. They also learned the difference between the United States’ and the Netherlands’ education curriculums.

Baili Zhang, director of international programs and the event organizer, shares information with the audience. Zhang hoped that the community would learn about the similarities and differences between U.S. and Dutch education systems and classroom experiences.

The topic is being discussed in detail, along with Zeijlmans van Emmichoven’s first experiences as a lecturer at Washburn University. Zeijlmans van Emmichoven enjoys biking around Shawnee Lake while staying in Topeka.
