GALLERY: Dancing Blues place top 5 in National Showcase

  • The Dancing Blues coach, Grace Ellrich, stands in front of the guest at the National Showcase in Lee Arena March 24. She informed the guest that the Dancing Blues were almost ready.

  • The Dancing Blues walk out onto the arena floor for their first routine to a crowd of about 50 people. They started practices back in January to get ready for Nationals in Florida April 6-10.

  • The ladies get into position for the jazz routine which was the first performance of the night. The routine was about two minutes long.

  • Jenna Smithson, senior in elementary education, leads the group in the jazz routine. They are mid-jump after second turns of the routine.

  • The Dancing Blues pose at the end of their jazz routine to the song, “Bloom” by Odeza. After this routine, they went into the changing room and prepared for the next routine.

  • The ladies put a crown on their heads during the hip hop performance which was about two minutes long. The music was a mixture of songs by various artists.

  • The ladies wave to the audience after their hip hop routine. After the performance, they hugged their friends and family.

  • The ladies pose together after their hip hop performance before Nationals. For Shalynn Long, senior in mass media; Malia Reeves, senior in finance; and Smithson, this would be their last nationals with the Dancing Blues.

  • Mackenzie Meharry, freshman in forensic investigations, hugs her family after the hip hop performance. The Dancing Blues placed top 5 in the Nationals overall.
