Women’s cross country finishes strong in NCAA Central Regional

Out the gates: The women’s team begins its race as the cannon goes off on Oct. 9, 2021. The Women will finish in seventh place with 140 points.

The Wahburn women’s cross country team finished 15th at the NCAA Central Regional on the 6K Tom Rutledge Course on Nov. 6 in Joplin, Missouri. The team finished with 417 points, which put them in the top half of the 35 team field. The race took place on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Joplin, Missouri.

Senior Sierra Mortensen led the Ichabods with an 18th place finish with a time of 21:28.19, receiving 2021 NCAA DII All-Region recognition for the performance. Sophomore Patricia Koma was 27th with a time of 21:51.54. In 36th was junior Lily Johnson with a time of 21:59.88. Sophomore Dulce Ayala Chanez was 128th with a time of 23:31.85, and freshman Eve Weber was 134th at 23:38.31. Rounding out the scoring were junior Luz Lopez Gonzalez in 148th with a time of 24:02.93, and freshman Verena Vesely in 155th with a time of 24:11.53.

This marks the end of the cross country season as a team for the 2021-2022 academic year. Qualifications for NCAA regionals will be announced later while the rest of the runners will look forward to track season. We look forward to seeing many of these runners continue to give their best efforts during the track season.
