Freedom and justice: The Juneteenth flag is a symbol of freedom and justice for Black Americans and African Americans.

The Topeka Family & Friends eighth annual Juneteenth celebration will be taking place on June 19 from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Vendors will be present at the event which is being held at the Hillcrest Community Center and Park.

This event is held each year to bring the community together in celebration and to give people the chance to learn what Juneteenth is and why it is so important.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of 250,000 enslaved African Americans from Galveston, Texas. For more background on Juneteenth, click here.
