Davis scores overtime game-winner to propel Topeka past Amarillo

The captain has struck again.

Forward Jordan Davis scored a powerplay goal at 9:09 of the first overtime after knocking a shot past goaltender Nikifor Szczerba propelling the Topeka RoadRunners to a 3-2 victory over the Amarillo Bulls.

Davis also scored the game-winning goal in game five of Topeka’s series against Wichita Falls. The victory gives Topeka a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five North American Hockey League South Division Finals.

Early in the first period, at 4:35, forward Brooks Behling put Amarillo up 1-0. Topeka responded later in the period on a goal from forward Brian Christie.

Five seconds separated two goals in the second period. Forward Kyle Sharkey put the RoadRunners up 2-1 at 4:53 but defenseman tied the game at two at 4:58.

Despite firing 15 shots on Szczerba in the third period, the game remained tied at two to force overtime.

In the victory, goaltender Rasmus Tirronen stopped 30 of 32 shots for the RoadRunners while Szczerba made 35 saves on 38 shots for the Bulls.
