Washburn students presented at K-INBRE symposium
January 20, 2015
This past weekend (January 17-18) seven Washburn students from the Biology and Chemistry Departments presented their research in the poster session at the 13th Annual Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE) Symposium. The symposium was held in the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka with about 250 attendees from ten universities in Kansas and Oklahoma. There were 119 posters presented in the poster session. Washburn student Jalen Dickson won one of the 12 Outstanding Poster Presentation Awards, and Sarah Walker received one of the 12 Honorable Mentions. Congratulations to Jalen and Sarah! The following are the Washburn students who presented at the K-INBRE Symposium and the research project titles:
Jalen Dickson: “Solvent-Free Synthesis of Biologically Active Stilbenoid Derivatives” (Research Mentor: Dr. Stephen Angel)
Rachel Harvey: “E. coli DbpA Activity and Role in Ribosome Assembly” (Research Mentor: Dr. Lisa Sharpe Elles)
Jacob May: “Identification and Annotation of Gene Features in Drosophila biarmpies Contig54 Using a Computational-Genomics Approach” (Research Mentor: Dr. Takrima Sadikot)
Jonathan Nelson: “Identification and Annotation of Gene Features in Drosophila biarmpies Contig59 Using a Computational-Genomics Approach” (Research Mentor: Dr. Takrima Sadikot)
Aaron Stadler: “Detosylation of Cyclic Tosylamides Using Sodium Amalgam to Form Azamacrocycles” (Research Mentor: Dr. Shaun Schmidt)
Danielle Steffey: “The Bacillus subtilis YhdP Protein and Its Role in Cellular Magnesium Homeostasis” (Research Mentor: Dr. Andrew Herbig)
