I first came across clips of “The Intern” on TikTok and later searched for it on YouTube and I am really glad I watched it. The film is directed by Nancy Meyers and stars Robert De Niro as Ben Whittaker and Anne Hathaway as Jules Ostin. It is one of those movies that feels simple but leaves you with a warm feeling by the end.
One of the key aspects of the film is the idea of hiring a senior intern. Whittaker immediately stands out because of how calm, kind and grounded he is. Even after having a long career and reaching a high position before retirement, he chooses to start again from scratch as an intern.
What makes Whittaker’s character so special is how open he is to learning new things. He does not act like he knows everything. Instead, he learns everything from scratch, whether it is technology or how the office works. He is also naturally friendly with everyone in the workplace and builds small but genuine connections with people. There is something very comforting about how respectful and steady he is, especially in a fast and chaotic work environment.
Ostin feels very real as a character as tries to manage her hectic work life and is a young ambitious entrepreneur. She is successful, busy and constantly trying to keep everything together while carrying a lot of pressure on her shoulders. The film shows how even strong and independent people can feel overwhelmed at times and that makes her very relatable.
The bond between Whittaker and Ostin is what really makes the movie special. It is not loud or dramatic. It grows slowly and feels natural, like real life. Whittaker never tries to take control or act like he knows better. Instead, he quietly supports her, listens and shows up when it matters.
Overall, “The Intern” is a feel-good movie that is easy to watch but stays with you. It is about kindness, respect, starting over and finding balance in life. It just leaves you feeling calm and a little more hopeful about people.
