On Friday, Aug. 22, Christian Challenge hosted a Dance Party in the North Union Lawn. All students from Washburn University were present for the event.  The dance brought students together from different majors to enjoy the music, dance, and fellowship.

 Verity Helt, sophomore accounting major, said the event met her expectations. Verity has attended the event before and appreciated the opportunity to connect with fellow students.

“I love it,” Helt said. “I would love more dance stuff to happen.” 

Jordan Metcalf, senior finance major, described the evening as a chance to engage with the campus community. For many participants, the event offered more than just dancing.

“I really like it,” Metcalf said. “It’s kind of a communal event where you can just come together, have fun, fellowship, and invite other people who want to come.” 

Breah Yourdon, junior communication major and student leader for the organization,emphasized the broader mission of Christian Challenge. 

“We encourage students to get connected in a church community in Topeka and grow closer to Jesus and to other students,” Yourdon said. “Events like this Dance Night are just a fun way to get connected, make new friends and grow friendships.”

The Dance Party is held annually at the beginning of the semester, with a lot of swing music and line dances. The event is part of a larger program that includes Thursday night gatherings, life groups, and other social activities such as bowling, yard games and holiday contests.

Christian Challenge welcomes all students to its events, with the intention to foster both social connections and spiritual growth on campus.
