First NCAA automatic qualifying mark of the outdoor season

The competitions of last weekend resulted in the first NCAA automatic Qualifying mark of the outdoor season. The Ichabods were competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, IA, and at the Pittsburg State Tune-Up in Pittsburg, KS.

Virgi Scardanzan took first place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.13m (13-06.50), taking the first automatic qualifying mark for the Bods. This means she is certain of going to the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships on May 27-29 in Allendale, MI. With her mark she also tied the Washburn school record and now sits in 4th place on the national list. Because of Scardanzan’s great performances the MIAA named her Field Athlete of the Week.

Isabella Hohl had a great weekend being the first Ichabod to break 12 sec in the 100m and 25 sec in the 200m. In the finals of the 100m Hohl recorded an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 11.87. Later that day she ran the 200m a time of 24.96. Both marks are new school records as well. Hohl was also a part of the 4x400m relay team, together with Chia Okoro, Lyndsay Stinson and Mandana Vouillemin they broke the school record to a time of 3:55.00.

The men shot put added one more NCAA provisional mark to their squad. Colton Dunkle already had the NCAA provisional mark but upped his game and threw further to a mark of 16.79m. Michael Majors threw the shot to a 16.49m NCAA provisional mark. Dunkle currently sits in 31st, while Majors sits in 41st on the national list.

The men’s 4x100m relay team of Eric Patterson, Jr., Romain Henry, Josh Hopkins, Wyatt Heiman broke the school record in a time of 41.85.

Next up is the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 7-9 in Pittsburg, KS. At this conference meet the Ichabods hope to be able to score a lot of points and get a better rank than at the Indoor Championships. Here the men’s squad finished 9th with 30 points, and the women’s squad finished 8th with 43 points.
