Ichabods softball wins over Wildcats

  • Pitching machine: Junior pitcher Raegen Hamm is throwing one of her many strikes during Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college. Hamm pitched a double header on Sunday.

  • Bunt: Freshman infielder Cailey Oldemeyer making a bunt in Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college. Oldemeyer was a first team All-Conference second baseman as a Legend high school senior in Parker, Colorado.

  • Throw to second: Freshman infielder Hadley Kerschen skillfully handles a ground ball. She snapped off a throw to second base in Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college.

  • Swing: Freshman infielder Cailey Oldemeyer about to connect with the ball. She slammed forth a pop fly in Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college.

  • At the wall: Senior outfielder Brianna Fuchs makes a catch back at the wall in Sunday’s game. In 2019, Fuchs started all 52 games and finished third on the team with a .345 batting average.

  • Every hit counts: Junior outfielder Ashton Friend making a hit for a ground ball in Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college. After batting .473 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs, Friend earned the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Most Valuable Player.

  • The last out: Freshmen infielder Kimi Patterson catches the pop fly to finish off Sunday’s game against the Wildcats of Wayne State college. Patterson was a first team all-state 3A selection as a high school senior.

In the final game of the Emporia State University Classic the Ichabods defeated the Wildcats of Wayne State college. The Ichabods scored two runs in the first inning, off a triple from Hadley Kerschen, then driven in by the doubles from Jenna Moore and Ashton Friend. In the third inning, Moore came across the Homeplate for the second time off a double form Friend earning her second RIB (run batted in) of the game.  Raegen Hamm pitched a great game, striking out nine, with one walk, five hits and only one run. This was the second full game that Hamm pitched Sunday.
