September 28 Deadline for Honorary Degree Nominations for May 2016 Commencement Ceremonies

Nominations for honorary degree recipients to be awarded at the May 2016 Commencement ceremonies are now being accepted.

The honorary degree is the highest academic recognition Washburn University can bestow. Recipients of these degrees have demonstrated high standards of excellence in their life and work as evidenced by scholarship or achievement, public service to the world, the nation, the state, or the community, in wholehearted commitment to the development of Washburn University; or through excellence in any calling or occupation which visibly contributed to the development of society and serves as a model for present and future generations.

Recipients generally have significant ties to the State of Kansas or to Washburn University through birth, residence, education, service, or notable achievement.

The Honorary Degree Committee asks that you follow the procedures and criteria when considering an individual for the degree. The procedures, criteria, nomination form and a list of previous recipients can be downloaded from the Honorary Degree web site at http://washburn.edu/faculty-staff/awards-recognition/honorary-degree.html.

For reference, a list of past Alumni Fellows is available at http://washburn.edu/alumni-friends/events-reunions/alumni-fellows/index.html
and a list of previous Alumni Award recipients is at http://washburn.edu/alumni-friends/events-reunions/Alumni-Awards/index.html.

PLEASE SEND YOUR NOMINATION VIA CONFIDENTIAL CAMPUS MAIL OR U.S. MAIL TO Phyllis Berry, Chair of the Honorary Degree Committee, Washburn University, c/o Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Department by MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2015. Please provide as much information as possible about the nominee – do not assume that all members of the Committee know the individual you are nominating. This will assist the Committee immensely when trying to narrow the nominees down to two or three recipients. Nominations that were received last year but were not selected to receive an Honorary Degree will be considered again this year. If you submitted a nomination last year and wish to update or add to the information that was provided, please forward this to Phyllis Berry, also.

If you would prefer a paper copy of the above documents, please email [email protected]. If you have questions, please contact your area’s committee representative:
