WU Words: Washburn

Choosing Washburn was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. It brought me life long friends, shaped me into a better person, and helped me realize that when you work hard good things come with. I choose Washburn because I didn’t want to go to KU like everyone else was in my friend group. Sometimes it takes me longer to learn things so a smaller classroom and professors knowing who I am was appealing to me.

I decided to go through formal recruitment my first fall at Washburn. I ended up getting a bid to Delta Gamma where I then began to fall in love with sorority life. The great thing about Washburn is it isn’t sorority life like it is at bigger schools. I ended up making friends with people that I never would have talked to in high school. I know that might sounds harsh but Washburn opened my eyes and took me out of the perfect little bubble that I thought I lived in. All of Greek life at Washburn holds that beautiful aspect in their chapters. They have diversity and very different men and women that come together to make a great organization and end up finding where they belong.

I also picked Washburn for the nursing school. After being in nursing school for a year, I feel that I am the happiest I have been in a long time. I have finally found the groups of people that I am suppose to be friends with and I know who I am and can’t wait to start applying my knowledge that the Washburn facility has taught me.

I want people to know that Washburn is a hidden gem. Especially where I come from, everyone goes to big schools and doesn’t even think about Washburn. Washburn has a very good facility that care about getting to know you and helping you earn your education. I don’t regret any decision I have made at WU because everything that I have done, good or bad, it has brought me to where I am in my life.
