On Wednesday, Dec. 3, International Brown Bag lecture was held in the Cottonwood room of Memorial Union from 12-1 p.m. Over 20 people attended the lecture presented by Nan Sun, Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Information Sciences. This lecture highlighted Sun’s trip to China in June.
Sun shared the river, Jinhua River and the mountain, Yellow Mountain, that impressed her the most. She also talked about her main reason for traveling to China.
“The main purpose actually, was to visit universities to exchange computer science related topics,” Sun said.

This presentation shares both visible and less visible dimensions of Chinese society. Sun shares about vibrant cities to efficient cashless transactions and lightning fast delivery services.
Colby Collins, senior history major, said that one of his history professors advised him to attend this lecture.Colins described what stood out to him during this lecture.
“What stood out to me the most is the honesty about just both showing the good and the bad …,” Collins said. “And its connection to its past, willingness to move forward despite hardships, economically or socially.”
Sun also included the infrastructure, technological integration and abundant food culture in the lecture. She also talked about the centralized political system of China.
Stefanie Weiland, gift information specialist at the foundation, said that she loves learning about international topics. She also described what she learnt from this lecture.
“I knew some of that information, but not all of it, so it just gave me a deeper understanding,” Weiland said.
The session wraps up with a question-and-answer segment where Sun addresses the attendees’ inquiries.
