On Oct. 22, Washburn celebrated the start of homecoming week with the lively and unforgettable Bod Bash in the North Union lawn from 6-9 p.m.
The Bod Bash was full of energy, with students swing dancing, taking pictures, playing pickleball and cheering for Homecoming pairings. With music, snacks and decorations, the Union lawn was alive with school spirit and excitement for the week ahead.
“For Homecoming this year, we’re bringing in Can Emporia, which is our annual food drive competition against Emporia State University, where we raise money and food items for the on-campus pantries. We’re able to promote it more and raise more for this great cause that benefits all students, faculty and staff,” said Taylor Reddington, junior forensic investigation major.
The event was decorated with Washburn colors and glowing lights. Student organizations and Greek life groups revealed their homecoming pairings. Everyone was dancing and cheering their teams as the names were announced.
“I think arts director Lori has done a really great job of creating new events for Washburn students, especially diverse events that we haven’t had before, that kind of meet the needs of what our student population looks like right now. I hope that students get a feel for involvement and realize that there’s more beyond just classes here at Washburn,” said Kate Coulter, WSGA president.
For many students, especially freshmen, it was a chance to unwind and connect before a busy week of Homecoming events. There were several games, a swing dance, popcorn as snacks and lots of entertainment.
“Bod Bash is a new event this year. Student Government is part of the Washburn Swing Dancing Club, and it’s going to be a fun night of swing dancing, music and food. We’re also going to be announcing a lot of honor candidates as well and overall, it’s a Washburn party for students to kick off Homecoming week,” said Tiana Smith, senior mass media major.
Students enjoyed the evening together, whether they were watching the wing dance, playing pickleball or just having food and drinks.
“It is my first time attending Bod Bash. I like it a lot. I think it’s fun. [I] love the presence of the Swing Dancing Club being here,” said Autumn Stevens, freshman political science major.
At the end of the event, the top 10 nominees for the Ichabods of Honors was announced. The names are: Kirstyn Brown, Belle Burghart, Lillian Clark, Kate Coulter, Jaydn Falley, Elizabeth Gaschen, Miranda Hillebert, Elvia Nino-Elliott, Guilherme Puerto and Amari Rawls.
