Dr. Marc Newman, president of Speaker for Life, spoke about stopping abortion. Called to Greatness and the Insight’s Women’s Center collaborated to host the speech Sept.10 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. There were about 30 people in this event. Dr. Newman gave a message that abortion is wrong with scientific, ethical, biblical and philosophical cases.
Dillon Walls, campus minister from CTG, mentioned what he liked the best for this event.
“I liked the first half quite a bit where [Newman] dove into the scientific case for life, the moral argument for life. And I think he did a good job of presenting the pro-abortion arguments and did a good job of explaining the faults in those arguments,” Walls said.
Josie Riddle, junior graphic design major, expanded on the difference of her thoughts before and after this event.
“The statistics of how many had died made me think it was not that big of a deal, personally, but then after… realizing what was actually happening and hearing how far, how deep people have been doing this, it just kind of opened my eyes to realize how dark it is,” Riddle said.
Cindy Folks, board of directors chair of Insight Women’s Center expressed what she liked about Newman’s speech.
“I liked the fact that Dr. Newman speaks truth and then reinforces what he says with the research that supports it,” Folks said.
Folks mentioned what she thought about abortion as well.
“I’m against abortion. I would love it if there was no abortion in the country. But the fact of the matter is that we want to lovingly support women to raise their children or pay for adoption. But we know that some will choose abortion, and with open arms, we welcome them back. We know they’re going to be wounded from the after effects of an abortion. We just want to love them with the love of Christ,” Folks said.
Making the Case for Life continued when students asked questions to Dr. Newman after his speech.
