On Sept. 26, Washburn University organized a family weekend program. The weekend program featured many other events including a comedy show starring Preacher Lawson at Washburn A/B.
Preacher Lawson is one of the finalists of America’s Got Talent season 12. He and his family both performed at the weekend show.
The show was kicked off by Mama Lawson, where she cracked jokes about the trouble the Lawson brothers gave her. Mama Lawson prepared the stage for the Lawson brothers with her jokes and then welcomed Justin Lawson to the stage.
Justin Lawson, brother of Preacher Lawson, engaged the audience with jokes related to his life experiences. The crowd cheered for him throughout the event. He delivered many jokes and made the audience laugh. He introduced the next performer, his brother Preacher Lawson.
Preacher Lawson arrived on the stage and was greeted with excitement, lifting the atmosphere of the audience. Preacher Lawson used different facial and body expressions to entertain the audience and cracked his “Airplane Seat” joke.
“It was a great crowd. It was definitely, there is a kid in the crowd, so I was like, ‘I’m not a dirty comedian,’ but they’re awesome jokes,” Preacher Lawson said.
Several audience members were anticipating the event, including Mucuranyana Bagirisoko, freshman criminal justice and legal studies major.
“I enjoyed the whole family. I think his mom and his brother were setting him up for high energy. They were more calm. They were more, you know, telling stories. And he was just coming in with ‘bang, bang, bang’ jokes. [The] jokes were hilarious,” Bagirisoko said.
Overall, the comedy show at Family Weekend was a success. The Lawson family brought humor, storytelling and energy, making the evening memorable for students, families and community members.
