On Aug. 27, Washburn hosted a Union Daze National Just Because Day event organized by the Memorial Union from 10-1 p.m.
Union Daze events focus and help students discover clubs, organizations and campus resources. Different student groups, campus departments and local businesses set up tables with info, freebies, games and food.
“The Union always offers a lot of activities, and always has tables over there with information about all the activities to attend, so they can really help you feel more involved with campus,” said Kylee Sperfslage, sophomore nursing major.
Students were greeted with complimentary Pepsi samples and various other refreshing drinks while hanging out in the main concourse.
“The most exciting part about this union daze is probably just the people”, said Branden Taylor, a junior, majoring in sports.
The union was buzzing with students stopping by between classes, chatting with friends and meeting new people.
“It has helped me interact with others without having to really spark a conversation myself,” said McKenzi Murrison, sophomore psychology major.
The “Just Because Day” theme added a lighthearted touch, encouraging students to enjoy simple pleasures without a specific reason.
“I like all the activities. I wouldn’t say anything cause I think it’s pretty good so far,” said Brynn Cordova, sophomore psychology major.
Each day of Union daze features different themes and activities to engage students. Different students were trying out the various beverages provided, and had at least one drink at each table outside the Union Market.
“I think they’re [union daze] very interactive and fun,” said Rees Brown, sophomore nursing major.
As the event wrapped up, students dispersed to attend classes and engage in other campus activities taking the sample drink in their hand.
