On May 2, the Mulvane Art Museum hosted a First Friday Reception in celebration of “Canvas and paper: from the studio of Ed Navone” from 5-7 p.m.
“I think it’s a good casual atmosphere where they get to appreciate art with other art lovers, and there’s always good food so that it always connects people,” said Sara Stepp, interim director of the Mulvane Art Museum.
The attendees gathered to celebrate the opening of the exhibition honoring the late Edward Navone, a longtime Washburn University professor and artist.
“He was my professor, and I think living in the midwest on the great plains has influenced it somewhat, but I think also my experiences traveling and reading books and seeing the work of other artists and museums has influenced my work,” said Barbara Waterman-Peters, honorary doctor of fine arts.
Emeritus of the Mulvane Art Museum and guest curator of the exhibition, delivered remarks at 6 p.m., providing insights to Navone’s artistic legacy and his impact on the university and local art community.
As the event wrapped up, visitors departed with a deeper appreciation for Navone’s work and enjoyed free refreshments.
