On April.15 , Kappa Sigma hosted Soak a Sigma in front of the Memorial Union. It takes place every semester in April.
Kappa Sigma at Washburn University is organizing a series of fundraisers to create a monument in honor of its old house on campus that existed from 1927 to 2015, which was demolished due to drainage issues.
“The funds are being collected through the legFi who we work with to collect dues from our members, and at the end, we’re paying Hutton monuments, who did a few of the other monuments around campus as well,” said Joseph Marr, senior actuarial science major.
The event started with balloons filled with joy and happiness along with their motive of raising a fund to preserve the fraternity which they can’t forget about. Everyone was ready to make an impact, contribute to a worthy cause and enjoy the event.
“Soak a Sigma is to raise enough money for a monument for our fraternity. We used to have a house here on campus, and unfortunately it was taken down. So, we want a monument to kind of remember our heritage here, and it has some of the names of our alumni that will impact them because it’ll never be forgotten here,” said Juam Maya, junior business major.
After they dried off, they started a fun bucket auction to keep things exciting. The participants grabbed a chance to pour a bucket of water on the fraternity members. Everyone cheered and laughed adding the fun with a new splash of water balloons. It was a great way to keep people involved in the presence of their mind and energy up.
Activities like this help students get refreshed, take a break from their study and get involved in campus events. Also, it is the best way to collect funds for something good. It helps students to remember the valuable contributions made by our alumni and teaches us how to preserve them for future students at Washburn University. It also allows students to develop leadership skills, good team work to achieve a goal, boost confidence and initiative towards campus activities.
