We are F1rst hosted its introductory event Jan. 29 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Memorial Union Underground.
The event was about sharing their first generation identity. There was free food and drinks and they shared a few things about the upcoming events and meetings.
“This event is the We are F1rst social,” said Jenny Lieurance, first generation specialist and event organizer. “We’re kicking off the spring semester with the social and then our next meeting is on Feb. 12 from 4 to 5. …We’ll always have free food and then we also have other events for first generation students.”
Elizabeth Tidwell, another organizer, said, “We are F1rst is a student organization for first generation students. We’re doing a social where people can meet faculty, staff and other students. Then, our next meeting is going to be in two weeks.”
“This event is really good, and being a first generation to go to college, I’m happy interacting with many people around here, and there are many free foods and drinks which I’m enjoying having, and I love this environment,” said Apeksha Poudel, freshman nursing major.
This event was a great way for first generation students to meet and interact with many people, share their experience with each other and learn about useful and helpful resources.
