A jeopardy trivia night was organized by the Washburn Black Student Union and the Multicultural Intersectional Learning Space Feb. 3, 2025.
“The event is Black History Month trivia night and it’s basically to celebrate Black History Month. We are just going to split off in teams with BSU and we’re just going to have a fun game night,” said Olivia Brice, the assistant director of student belonging.
Wendo Kimori, student ambassador for MILS, hosted the event. They were excited to bring students together to grow and bond as well as to gauge how much students know about Black History Month.
“It’s a jeopardy-style trivia game to test people’s knowledge on a lot of Black history facts,” Kimori said. “We’re hoping that it brings people together, and also that people can learn some things that they didn’t know.”
WBSU and MILS conduct this trivia night annually on behalf of Black History Month, recalling and remembering Black history. Djenece St. Louis, sophomore biology major, enjoyed learning more about Black history.
“I came to the one that they held last year, it was very fun. Apparently, I don’t know a lot about Black history, not as much as I thought I did,” St. Louis said.
The game, consisting of four different teams, tested the participants. Many were unaware of their knowledge on Black history while others got fascinated with the historical facts of Black Americans.
Team four, or “Susans,” won first place, and the prize was a gift basket full of Washburn merchandise that they all shared. WBSU will continue to hold events throughout the month of February to honor Black History Month.
