The popular Casey’s convenience store has been under construction for almost two months on the corner of Washburn Ave. and 17th St. There was a certain time of blockage to the footpath through initial construction, but now it’s walkable.
Many people are excited to know about its opening and some might not have known or noticed being busy with their college work, but the project is set to be completed by the end of March.
“The project here is four and a half months long from start to finish, it’ll open up on March 27,” said Skyler Mick, project superintendent of Casey’s.
The construction is ongoing to meet its deadline for completion and begin its quality services for Ichabods and people around the campus area.
“It will be … complete with gas pumps and serving pizza and all that right next to the college,” Mick said.
Elizabeth Ginzel, freshman occupational therapy assistant major, shared her excitement about the coming project.
“It’s a great place for it to be as there’s not a lot of other things around [the] college,” Ginzel said.
Casey’s establishment does not only affect college students but also locals nearby. There are many advantages along with some disadvantages.
“I think that having a gas station close by will help motorists to be able to buy gas easily within the neighborhood because there is no gas station very close to Washburn,” said Sunday Chuckwuma Eze, law school graduate and resident of the Washburn Villa. “But, on the other side, I think the only disadvantage of it could be the risk of fire break which can be minimized.
