The Nerf Organization at Washburn had a Nerf War at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center for anyone to come battle it out on Oct. 1 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
The event started with the organizer, David Craft, a sophomore mass media major, describing the aim of the event and what Nerf guns meant to him.
“It’s supposed to be different, something that people can do to be active and have fun and grasp their inner child again,” Craft said.
Craft stated that Nerf Wars was organized for recreation and for Ichabods to release some steam from their busy schedules to have some fun.
Craft also described his Nerf organization, and how it all started with the background story about all the Nerf guns he had at the event showcasing his personal Nerf gun and all the collections.
Craft’s collection included a variety of Nerf blasters and shooters, ranging from compact pistols to powerful rifles. Craft’s passion for Nerf guns was evident in his impressive collection, showcasing various blasters and shooters. Each gun had a unique story, reflecting Craft’s personal journey as a Nerf enthusiast. His enthusiasm for the hobby was contagious, inspiring others to join the Nerf community and explore the endless possibilities of the game.
“So three years ago, I decided to start the organization, and we had a membership fee of $15 to help get the club started. And so with that, we were able to get blasters that the club could provide for anyone who came without a blaster, and if anyone wanted to give a blaster, they still can. And then a bunch of it’s also just from my own personal collection that I’ve amassed over the years from gifts and personal purchases, and it’s all here with everything for you to come out and enjoy,” Craft said.
The Ichabods were divided into two teams, red and blue, to play a capture-the-flag game. Each team’s goal was to steal the opposing team’s flag from their base. With a wide variety of Nerf guns available, from blasters to gliders and beyond, participants had plenty of options to choose from for their battles.
Jake John Harris, sophomore economics major, who participated in the Nerf Wars mentioned the event to have been enjoyable despite the hassle of reloading the Nerf guns.
“It took me a really long time to collect enough darts to reload. It was really fun though,” Harris said.
Zaven Crupper, a freshman chemistry major, mentioned the event was a great opportunity to make new friends and let off some steam to have fun at the Nerf Wars.
“I say it’s pretty fun, a good chance to make some new friends and just kind of let out some steam after our day classes,” Crupper said.
Ryan Patrick Spaeth, freshman nursing major, expressed his enjoyment of an event he attended.
“I enjoyed this event a lot, it was fun. Great people, great time overall,” Spaeth said.
The event had people using teamwork and strategy as participants engaged in friendly competition at the Rec. This showdown brought together Ichabods for a day filled with action, laughter and camaraderie.
