On Wednesday, Sep. 11, Washburn A/B was packed with audience members ready to see what talents were in store and who would be the winner of the $500 grand prize at the Office of Student Involvement and Development talent show.
The talent show gave many students the opportunity to showcase their talents such as singing, playing guitar, solving multiple Rubik’s cubes in a matter of seconds and more.
“I definitely think students have a lot of talent on campus, and this is just an opportunity for them to showcase that talent and put it at the front, foremost, and center,” said Isaiah Bryant-Collier, director of OSID.
Hannah Andersen, senior mass media major, says that she joined the talent show because of her passion for singing and playing the guitar. She also loves to see the different and unique talents performed by other people.
“I love watching [talent shows] because it’s just so cool to see what everyone has to offer, because everyone’s different, and it always puts a smile on my face,” Andersen said.
Roni Simeon, junior kinesiology major and musical artist, says that she joined the talent show because she thought it would be the perfect opportunity to market her own music and connect with the audience.
“So apart from being a student-athlete, I am an artist, and so I felt like this was an opportunity for me to market my music as well as my vocals,” Simeon said. “I won’t be singing an original, I guess I just made it my own. It’s going to be “My Mind” by Yebba. I chose this song just because it relates to what I’m currently going through, like mentally and stuff. So I just wanted to come to the talent show and hopefully make others feel how I feel through my voice.”
At the end of the event, the winner of the $500 grand prize was Wendo Kimori, sophomore communications and pre-law major, who played a song by Billie Eilish on the violin.
