GALLERY: Washburn baseball wins first game of the series against Newman

Casey Steward, junior in kinesiology, walks up to the pitcher’s mound. He was ready to begin the first game of the series.

Cal Watkins, junior in integrated studies, sets up to be the first batter of the game. He grounded out to second base.

Cale Savage, sophomore in kinesiology, swings at the home plate. He hit the first home run of the game which helped Washburn gain a lead of 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Watkins hits the ball into left field. The other team caught the ball before he could get to base which left the game score tied 1-1.

Trey Adams, junior in computer science, slides into second base after hitting the ball into the left field. After the double to second he proceeded to get ready for the next player to bat to see if he would run or not.

Savage hits the ball in the bottom of the fifth to right field. He got another point for Washburn with the help of Adams, which made Washburn take the lead with a score 1-2.

The team welcomes Savage with cheers. They cheered the moment the ball went over the fence.

Cayden Bressler, sophomore in physical education, gets ready for the top of the eighth inning. He took off his batter helmet, put on his regular hat and walked to his position.

Adams hits the ball in the ninth inning giving Washburn the win. The bases were loaded after two intentional walks and a triple with the help from a teammate.

The team runs out onto the field to celebrate and throw water over Adams to celebrate the final point scored. The game ended with a score of 2-3 with Washburn winning the first game of the series.
