Late Night at the Rec is February 25, 2022, from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m. This annual event began in 2009.

Late Night at the Rec is coming back to Washburn on Feb. 25 with free food, games and prizes after taking a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will host this event from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. and will offer activities such as knockout, archery, yoga, succulent planting and Nintendo Wii games for all students to enjoy.

“Late Night at the Rec is an event geared towards giving students an alternative, something fun and social to do on a Friday night besides going to a party,” said Whitney Slater, the director of the SRWC.

In addition to the activities, there will be shirts, gift cards and other prizes for students to win.

“We had some generous Topeka businesses provide some great giveaway prizes,” said Isaiah Collier, director of the Office of Student Involvement and Development. “If you have never had a chance to visit the Rec, this is a great opportunity to see what all it has to offer.”

SRWC has hosted this event every year since 2009, with the exception of last year when the university shut down most campus events.

“I think a lot of us have gotten a little too used to isolating ourselves,” Slater said. “This year we want to bring back some fun to campus and give students an opportunity to get back to some of the offerings we had pre-pandemic.”

Students will need their Washburn ID and a mask to get in.
