Bods on the Block: Are you worried about the delta variant and its possible effects on the semester?

  • Bods on the block: Students are asked if they are worried about the delta variant and its possible effects on the semester.

  • Kinsey Kuttler, junior kinesiology major. “Yes, just because I am scared of missing two weeks of physics class.”

  • Lauren Frank, sophomore physics and engineering major. “I am kind of worried about missing classes because I am taking 17 hours, so it would be very stressful if I had to miss class because I am a science major, my professors are very strict and they won’t record lectures for us if we have to miss class.”

  • Chloe Chaffin, sophomore secondary English education major. “Absolutely, I am worried about it because I think that as young people we think we are a lot safer than we are and while that may be true for the individual, you might not know that you have a problem or underlying condition until you find out in the worse way possible. Even if it doesn’t happen to you, it may happen to someone around you. We need to start thinking with a collective mindset rather than individually. I would encourage everyone to be safe with COVID now as much as ever because it is not over until we stick together.”

  • Shayden Hanes, junior marketing and finance major. “I would say yes I am worried about it, but I am hopeful that the university is taking the necessary steps and that we can still have as much of a normal semester as possible.”

  • Hannah Mumpower, sophomore radiologic technology and medical imaging major. “Yes, but no. It is pretty scary since I am in the hospital now for my clinical, so I am seeing firsthand all the COVID craziness that’s going on. We are going to get through it. It was kind of like last year, everyone was really scared about everything but it’ll blow over eventually. Everything will return to some kind of normal.”

  • Lily Thompson, sophomore elementary education major. “I am slightly worried about the Delta Variant because I work with kids and it does tend to affect the younger group. As far as Washburn’s campus, I feel like they are taking the right precautions to keep everyone safe while still holding in-person classes.”
